Flow9 vs Crystal

Any thoughts on flow9 (never heard of it before but seems mature and modern(?)) vs Crystal for someone wanting to take the leap into programming again?

Crystal is a compiled object-oriented language, flow9 is a vm-based functional one, they are quite opposite in many aspects. I would suggest to try both to see which looks easier to you.

Is it VM-based though? Seems to list up a whole lot of compliation targets.

When it comes to object-oriented vs functional I think the first is easier for me as an old dabbler in Ruby and C++.

Anyway, I have no idea, just deeply wanted someone to rant and reinforce my conviction to Crystal

The other interesting language is probably release next month, my rant is blazing fast compilation and lower memory could be useful for embedded devices and cloud.
