These suggestions are still pretty good for now.
I really love the Crystal language. It works well on Windows and multithreading is fun too.
However, there’s one thing I would like to say. The strategy of moving Rubyists to Crystal hasn’t been very successful and likely won’t in the future.
Instead, focus on attracting young programming enthusiasts who start with modern languages like Rust or Nim. They can discover Crystal first and then find Ruby as its dynamic version.
I’m only one person, but I actually followed this path. Crystal first, then ruby as the dynamic, and more popular language. Unfortunately, I can’t bring myself to like ruby, because of how bad the development experience is on windows.
This is why I hope the crystal team does not allow this to happen to crystal and really focuses on making windows a first class platform. The install experience is already better. I hope things like the lsp can be better too. For the moment I haven’t managed to get either crystal or any of the ruby lsps working. The best autocomplete I’ve gotten, ironically, is in irb.
