Did you know about GitHub - schovi/baked_file_system: Virtual File System for Crystal language. Embedding your assets into final binary. ? No patch lands there in ages, but still working.

Yes. I tried it and it works under macOS, but as I mentioned to @straight-shoota , it does not seem to work under windows yet.
My Wails clone (which is my goal) runs under mac and Windows, so I don’t mind using my naive virtual file system, as long as it is portable.
If a better solution becomes available, I’ll just swap them.
