Crystal and GTK4 and GNOME and Linux?

hi,

I am a programming enthusiast only. I love Python.

I also love Linux and FOSS and GTK seems to be the thing., GTK4.
And most of my websearches produces pages from:
https://ultimate-gtk4-crystal-guide.geopjr.dev/en/

Then I realized I was curious about Crystal language…
I read just the intro and I’m absolutely excited: beautiful!

So, question…
Is Crystal a viable option if you want to make an app for Gnome?
If not, why is it so? What’s missing?

How come Crystal isn’t listed here? Will it be?

Peter

There’s a few nice looking Crystal GTK apps:

So I should think so.

Well, the GTK bindings are still in only in version 0.18, you’ll have to ask @hugopl for the plan.

thanks!

Since I had twins two years ago you could imagine that my spare time doesn’t exist anymore. I still use rtfm and batata daily, but without any time to improve them. So I would say that I have no plans for the bindings right now, but they aren’t dead while I’m still using apps made with them.

I think it is. I am making a virtualization app for Crystal called: virtu

I am using hugopl/libadwaita.cr and hugopl/gtk4.cr (thanks, @hugopl) and they’ve been working fine so far.

Trying to follow GNOME’s HIG: GNOME Human Interface Guidelines

My app is kind of functional but not yet there. Still, I like the look and the simplicity GNOME brings.
