Upgrading available winget version

Hi,

when installing a new box at home recently I wanted to try to install as many packages as possible using the winget tool. I was happy to discover that crystal was available (CrystalLang.Crystal package) but the version seems pretty old (1.9.2)

I know Windows isn’t a top priority, but later versions seems much more usable on Windows. So my two questions are:

a) Does the core team plan to package newer versions of Crystal for winget?
b) If not, is there some way I can contribute to make that happen?

We have never released official Crystal packages for Winget nor are there any plans to do so. We’re lacking manpower and expertise on this, so I believe it’s best to leave packaging a job for the community.

Of course we’re happy to help out package maintainers with upstream support.

The existing package is community-maintained but apparently hasn’t seen much love recently. The sources appear to be at winget-pkgs/manifests/c/CrystalLang/Crystal at master · microsoft/winget-pkgs · GitHub and this would likely be the place to push updated release versions. But that exhausts my knowledge about packaging for WinGet.

Great! I’ll have a look and see if I can setup a PR for the latent version of Crystal.
