I would propose the name “Callas” for the mascot, inspired by the renowned soprano singer Maria Callas. In Japanese, both Maria Callas and the bird crow are referred to as “カラス” (karasu), which creates a playful wordplay using my native language.
I was thinking about this as well.
The reason is that those 2 sticks at the bottom to me feel a little bit out of place. The rest of the image is low resolution polygonal in nature, and legs seems to be added later instead of converting an image to a bunch of triangles in one step.
I think the naming suggestions provided by the community members are all excellent, as long as they are easy to spell and pronounce.
Crow is definitely a correct choice for Crystal as a mascot, as it is considered a sacred bird in some countries.
However, I think this crow is obviously a failed design, the mascot should be fascinating and friendly enough to bring it to the public. The design with no eyes, incomplete feet, and rigid lines is definitely not appealing.
I think this might be influenced by Crystal’s icon, but as jwoertink has mentioned, like Rust, there’s no need for our mascot to have an all-crystal texture design. The name and color alone are sufficient to reflect the connection to crystals. What’s more, the mascot must be well-liked by the public, easy to spread, and conducive to mascot-based creations. Therefore, it must be approachable and either cute and entertaining, referring to pic1, or full of personality and expressiveness, making it impressive, referring to pic2.

A front appearance might be a good idea, as it can better showcase its character. It would be like having a conversation in a two-dimensional plane, which greatly facilitates the creation of related merchandise and content.
@Hadeweka +1 for Crys!
Mascot is wonderful as it is; I think eyes would detract from the simplicity and ‘hardness’. Rob Pike made a comment on the gopher that if it were to have more features it’d primarily be “ugliness and hair”, implying that the simplicity of the gopher was the appeal of it as a mascot.
Eyes/small details would also make it more difficult to use the mascot in smaller formats.
There is one very important thing about the mascot. License.

Onyx, Obsidian, Jett or Jet; I do like Crys also
I like Onyx and Jasper. Also agree with others about having eyes but feet are probably not necessary.
Also regarding eyes, one of the most interesting thing about birds that I find is since they have eyes on the side of the head (with exceptions for hunting birds), they cock their head at you in a funny way. You’ll never find a crow staring at you head on. I feel like a more natural angle and a slightly less oversized head would be much nicer. I think the head is the full on crystal logo hence the weird shape? That doesn’t seem necessary.
Also picture of the american crow, for reference. I assume that’s the intended one, since it’s all black.
Very nice crow in this picture.
Its amazing to see to see the response from the community on the name for the Mascot. The idea behind giving the mascot a polyhedron look is to omit the use of the actual crystal logo in the frame which I think is a good concept. All the names suggested by the community so far are excellent and contextual to the design. We are analysing the names very closely and will the announcing the final name to the Mascot soon. Till then please continue to contribute to the naming process.
Is it necessary for mascot must have something mapping to crystal? i consider a cartoon is more lovely.
What I find amusing is that I have a tattoo of a crow on my arm, which means I was a fan of Crystal and showing some representation before I even knew what Crystal was
These are all really amazing visualisations I have to say . As we see it, the illustration style shouldn’t feel far from the brand style. We wanted to be consistent so we used what we already had instead of adding new graphic resources just for the mascot.
Oh, that’s nice. Our mascot should be helpful

Sharing this from the discord group. I drew some renditions of the Crystal Mascot. I did use artistic liberty to simplify the design and added an eye eyes. I also shameless paired it with the crystal word mark.
Onyx and Crys were my 1st and 2nd pick of name in the poll. So, hoping that one of the two win.
