Hi, i'm josie!

hey crystal folks!

i’ve been following crystal for a long time now. first dug into it back when i was a startup cto, building a large distributed system on ruby. we started hitting performance bottlenecks, especially with database transactions, and that’s when crystal really caught my eye.

since then, i’ve tried to use crystal for personal projects whenever it makes sense, and i’m always spreading the word to other devs.

these days, i’m working on cloud-native infrastructure and security at red hat. also, i checked open collective recently and noticed i’ve been donating to crystal since 2022.

i’m really passionate about open source, got hooked as a teen after my first arch linux install (back when system upgrades would randomly break stuff). fixing things taught me a lot, and i started contributing code upstream.

just started working on a kubernetes operator that uses crystal for the controller logic, so i figured now’s a good time to get more involved with the community and upstream projects. hoping there might be ways i can contribute, especially with my background in containers, cloud-native stuff, and technical writing etc.

talk soon,
josie

Hah, I remember those times. Not a lot of fun. Made me move from Arch as main OS back to Windows bach in the day. Nowadays it’s not either, but both with WSL2

Awesome! Are you using the K8s API directly or a shard for it like this one?

heyy jamie!
i saw your rails app operator using crystal on github which actually inspired me to do this in part hehe
i’ll use your shard for sure to keep the code clean and simple ;)

Sweet! :tada: I use that operator to deploy all my stuff, including my Mastodon server and even my Crystal apps.

If you get stuck on anything with it, feel free to reach out.

Hi josie, welcome to the community!

Spreading the word and building systems in production is surely a great way to contribute. Who knows, maybe your next contribution is helping us in writing a great Success Story for Red Hat using Crystal!
